Custom Artificial Eye/Ocular Prosthesis
Experience Comfort and Precision with Our Custom-Made Ocular Prostheses
At The Eye Spot, we take pride in offering custom-made ocular prostheses, designed with a noninvasive, pain free approach. Our use of the innovative modified impression technique, originally developed by Lee Allen, ensures a snug and comfortable fit. This can be done 6-8 weeks following your surgery.
Streamlined Two- Appointment process:
- Initial Evaluation (Complimentary): This first meeting is to assess your current prosthesis and socket health. We will discuss fabrication details, insurance coverage, care, and possibly take an impression.
- Fitting and Customization: During your second appointment we fit your prosthesis. After this sculpting phase the prosthesis undergoes a meticulous process in the laboratory. During this period, the patient is given a break for a few hours, at which point they can explore downtown Greensboro and its many dining and shopping options. Upon the patient’s return, they sit with the ocularist as the prosthesis is delicately hand-painted to match the companion eye. The prosthesis then undergoes a final curing stage in the lab. After the curing, the prosthesis is carefully pumiced and polished to achieve a smooth, comfortable, natural finish.
Comfortable Corneal Scleral Shell for Blind Eyes
Acrylic = Low Maintenance
Our Corneal Scleral Shell, crafted from thin acrylic, offers a comfortable fit over stable blind eyes. The fitting procedure mirrors that of our artificial eyes, promising ease, comfort, and consistency. These shells, like our prostheses, are low-maintenance, need replacement every 5-7 years, and can be refitted or adjusted in the first two years. We cater to diverse wearing needs – 24/7 or intermittent usage.
