Marion Lawless: Seeing Confidence Again

January 15, 2026

When lupus took away Marion Lawless’s sight in her right eye, it also affected her confidence. “I didn’t want to walk around blind,” she said. “It just didn’t look nice.” Her corneal transplant hadn’t healed properly because of her condition, leaving her eye deflated and visibly damaged. For Marion, the physical reminder of her illness was difficult to live with — until she found Emma.

Marion first heard Emma’s name through recommendations from others who had been through similar experiences. “I was scared of her at first,” she admitted with a laugh. “But once I met her, that fear went away. She was so nice and explained everything in detail. I felt comfortable right away.”

Emma specializes in creating custom prosthetic eyes that restore not just appearance, but confidence and comfort. From the start, Emma walked Marion and her husband through every step of the process — explaining what would happen, showing pictures, and answering every question before Marion could even ask.

She gave me back my confidence – and my smile.

“She measured my eye, took the imprint, and that was it — only took about 20 seconds,” Marion recalled. “Then she painted the eye, matched the color perfectly, and four hours later I tried it on. She polished it, made sure it fit right, and I was ready to go.”

The result was life-changing. Marion’s new prosthetic eye looked so realistic that even her own eye doctor couldn’t tell the difference. “When I go to the eye doctor, they always want to check my right eye because it looks so real,” she said. “Same color as the other one. You’d never know the difference.”

Over time, Marion had her prosthesis replaced as her eye continued to change. After two years, her original prosthetic no longer fit properly because her eye socket had shrunk slightly. The new one, made with advanced material for people with dry eyes, felt even better. “This one doesn’t get dry anymore,” she said. “It fits perfectly.”

Marion continues to visit Emma every six months for a professional polish and check-up — a routine she actually enjoys. “She’s very thorough and always makes sure everything’s right,” Marion said. “When I went with my husband the first time, we didn’t know what to expect. Emma showed us pictures to explain everything and made us both feel so comfortable.”

The prosthetic has given Marion back her confidence and peace of mind. She rarely thinks about it now — it feels completely natural. “When she puts the prosthetic in, I don’t take it out unless I see her,” she said. “You don’t even know it’s there. It’s like your real eye. Honestly, I think it’s more comfortable than a contact lens.”

Emma even provided Marion with all the supplies and instructions to care for it at home. “She gave me everything I needed and showed me how to clean it,” Marion said. “It’s simple.”

For Marion, the experience has been about more than appearance — it’s about feeling whole again. “Choosing Emma was the best decision,” she said. “She gave me back my confidence — and my smile.”
